THE ARTHOUSE REVOLUTION

According to research by the innovation foundation NESTA, people will continue identifying less with the major cities in which they live. Socialising and spending more time in their local neighbourhoods will take priority.

More people will work from home, social enterprises and not-for-profit organisations. Neighbourhood-level city governance will be stronger than today.

Traditional leisure models are dying

More discerning cinema customers are no longer satisfied getting into their vehicle and driving to a soulless multiplex where the films are dictated by Hollywood and targeted to a mass-market audience. They are looking to support local businesses that present curated content that is relevant to their lives.

If we look at our audience breakdown, 99% of our audience are within a mile of our cinema with an overwhelming majority getting to us by foot or bicycle.

LIVE THEATRE SHARED, UP CLOSE & PERSONAL

There’s something about experiencing live theatre; the shared reactions, the raw emotion, the discussion afterwards

With Live Streamed productions you get an affordable price, and the camera angles & vantage points to really see the performers and experience it on a whole new level.

INDEPENDENT & ENGAGED WITH OUR NEIGHBOURHOOD

As we focus on our community and what their needs are, we have successfully reached out to new audiences.

We have had successful seasons of films that reflect the diversity of our community such as Women in Film, Working Class British, LGBT & Minority Ethnic Seasons.

The ArtHouse Fringe Theatre Co is a film-to-screen theatre production company. Its aim is to create exciting theatrical work with a focus on new writing and re-imagined classics. Working with a diverse range of artists, we are committed to distributing filmed theatre productions to cinemas across London and the UK. The ease of distribution throughout the many cinemas that are on our high streets make the theatre experience accessible and affordable for both our audience and our theatre makers.

Our team will have a unique combination of expertise in theatre making, filmed performance and cinema distribution – allowing us to create and share new and untold stories and cutting edge artistic work with the widest possible audience. New theatre that would rarely be produced because of the expense and time commitment of staging plays in the limited venues available.

‘Event cinema’ has transformed the entertainment industry over the past decade. Since 2009, millions of audience members have visited their local cinema to watch live theatre, opera and concerts. This trend shows no sign of slowing down and it is estimated that by 2019, the worldwide event cinema industry will be valued at over $1bn.

Traditionally, the approach is to film the live event after it’s been created. Our productions are designed from the outset to be filmed in a studio or empty theatre. This allows us to prioritise cinema audiences positioning cameras where best to enhance the narrative and production.

The actors and theatre director will work with the director of photography to create a hybrid filmed theatrical experience that is inexpensive and immediate.

We believe passionately in creating theatre and telling stories from under-represented groups within our communities. Women, the white working class, black and minority ethnic, the LGBT, the young the old, disabled and who ever else has struggled to be heard throughout our creative industries,  Groups that make up the majority of our population but whose voices for decades have shamefully been neglected.
